Jérémie Gachet comes to prove that it's never too late to start.
Jérémie Gachet comes to prove that it's never too late to start. He discovered obstacle racing at the age of 40 and has been developing his skills in this sport ever since. But he warns that a diversified training is needed to progress.
Interview with Jeremie Gachet
1. How did you find out about the obstacle course?
Social networks were talking about it more and more and I wanted to try this new concept.
2. What motivates you?
The fact that I discover a sport at 40, which is a mix of several sports where I have everything to learn!
3. How do you prepare for this kind of race?
The preparation is comprehensive, from weight training to running, including balance, skill and agility!
4. Are you more of a beach or mountain runner?
I prefer the mountains, but I can enjoy the beach from time to time.
5. Do you have a training routine to share with us?
At the moment, I do short and easy sessions from Monday to Thursday with footwork, 1 workout and quiet jogging.
Then I do 1 track session on Friday and long outings during the weekend, with 1 technical obstacle session.
6. In your opinion, is it important to diversify your training?
The concept of "cross-training" is becoming an essential way to progress, not to get injured and not to get "bored" by varying your training.
7. What about nutrition? Do you consider it as important?
As important as sleeping. You can't want more and more from your body without taking care of it!
8. Are you accompanied by a nutritionist?
No, over the years I've been able to retain the main lines of what is good and what to avoid in nutrition, but it's clear that I don't have much knowledge on the subject.
9. To what extent does Super Vegan Fitness make sense to you?
Without going into details, I am convinced that my current diet besides the amount of intense sport I practice lead me to develop deficiencies from time to time and I am happy to be able to make up for the deficiencies with healthy and natural products that I consume before, during and after exercise, but also at breakfast.
10. Do you already have a favorite product?
In terms of taste and pleasure to consume, I appreciate the products to take before the effort, "energy and performance", based on guarana and beetroot.
11. Do you consider your diet as an element that helps you to give the best of yourself?
Yes, in the sense that bad food choices will stop me from being at my best. Also, in the sense of maintaining long-term health.
12. What does "being healthy" mean to you?
I would say it means being resilient and prepared as best as possible for all the obstacles that arise throughout our lives (no pun intended! LOL).
13. Any advice for those who are going to do their first obstacle course?
A bit of technical preparation will be welcome to begin successfully. And do your 1st race with friends, in discovery and learning mode.
14. Which race gave you the most fun?
It can be said that my first race in Morzine gave me as much pleasure as pain. Absolutely unprepared but fighting with top athletes. I went to the limit of myself to finish the event.
15. Are there any other events you dream of doing?
My preparation is now focused on the world championships in Greece in November. I like the profile of this race very much and I know that everyone will be ready! So, I'm looking forward to getting to the start and having a great battle!
