When Superfoods Overtake The Cosmetics

When Superfoods Overtake The Cosmetics

Matcha, Cacao, Moringa, Spirulina, Guarana or Açai… after seducing our fridge and our pantry, the superfoods are now overtaking our beauty pouch.

More and more we rely on these products of high nutritional value to create moisturizing creams, soaps, facemasks, or even powerful shampoos.

If you pay attention to your alimentation in a conscious way and you purchase, when possible, quality organic products, why would you feed your skin with toxic products?

Everything we put on our skin (and hair) gets directly into our body and that is why we often hear “we should never put anything on our skin that we can’t eat”. The other benefit is that by using quality and purer ingredients we get surprisingly efficient results.

These are some of the superfoods often used in cosmetics. Take them out of the pantry and start pampering your skin:

Açaí

This superfood comes from Brazil. It is a fruit from a tree that grows in the most humid regions of the country. It highlights its high content of antioxidants, vitamins A and C, essential fatty acids like Omega 3, 6 and 9, and also high quantities of fibre and plant protein.

The Natural Cosmetic company Organii knows the power of Acai extract very well and it uses. It is an ally for their antiaging products: “it is extremely rich and fibres, antioxidants, proteins, calcium, magnesium and iron. All which provide to the body energy, resistance, protection against degenerative diseases and fights against aging. On the skin, it provides minerals essential to collagen production and hydrates in a very efficient way.

Matcha

Matcha tea (a type of green tea) possesses great benefits for health: it regulates cholesterol levels, improves blood circulation, supports toxins elimination, improves gut motility, etc. Matcha’s benefits are now also being used in cosmetics due to its properties against aging skin, and for its high concentration of antioxidants. For Instance, Organii has used it in its day cream formula: “The day cream is rich in Matcha: it contains a high concentration of antioxidants, magnesium, vitamin C, which delay wrinkle’s formation. It also reduces damage from ultra violet rays and it supports cell regeneration. It is a cream longevity friendly to which you can add the anti-aging solution to reinforce its action.”

Spirulina

Spirulina is widely used in cosmetic, especially in regenerating and decongestant facial masks as well as in body treatments. It is highly sought after for its proteins and stimulating action, which make of spirulina a perfect alga for nourishing complexion and as an anti-wrinkles treatment.

Cacao

Among the numerous health benefits of cacao, we can highlight these: it stimulates the nervous system, it improves the mood, it is rich in antioxidants which helps balancing the cardiovascular system. It also has many benefits for the skin and it is used in a diversity of cosmetic treatments: it relaxes, helps to tonify, improves blood circulation in the body, it has a detox effect and it is useful to treat cellulite. In beauty centres and spas, we find more and more treatments with cacao: an authentic delight.

Moringa

Known as the “tree of life”. Its seeds are antiseptic – they are used in Africa to purify the water- as well as anti-free radicals. It Is widely used to cleanse the skin,  as a shampoo and makeup remover.  It also has skin and scalp reconstitution properties.

Using natural and healthy cosmetics has many benefits: one of them is knowing that we are not putting toxic products on our skin, that often cause imbalances such as dermatitis, dandruff, or even more serious diseases such as cancer. Another benefit has to do with the environment. If we always pick organic and conscious brands, we are guaranteed that our products are made with raw materials that support local economies, use less plastic, paper and they have a much more sustainable production. At Iswari for instance, our products are a 100% organic and as much as possible Fairtrade.

If that triggered in you a desire to take the first step and start taking advantage of the cosmetics with superfoods, here is the recipe of a facial mask very easy to make and 100 % homemade and that works. Whether it is from age, too much sun exposure or from aggressive chemicals that we apply, the skin has a tendency to be dry and dehydrated. This alga and Matcha face mask will help to fight against those effects, as well as slowing down premature skin aging.
